Resource Details

New York City Early Literacy Learning (NYCELL) demonstrates the importance of early literacy through oral language development and play between parent and child. Based on current research, children will achieve success when they are exposed to a print rich environment filled with meaningful and expanding interactive experiences. NYCELL provides parents and their children with reading readiness strategies, focused on speaking, listening, pre-reading and pre-writing skills. Free resources and children’s books that promote at home learning experiences are provided to the families on a weekly basis. The modeling of effective literacy activities and positive interactions between parent and child through finger plays, read-alouds, and field trips, are basic components of NYCELL.
